Dalmatia Šibenik

Dalmatia Šibenik

Šibenik-Knin County, named after two historic cities - Šibenik and Knin, consists of three parts; islands, coastal and the karst inland of the Dalmatinska zagora. The Islands of the Šibenik archipelago are places of true beauty and unspoiled tranquillity - Murter, Prvić, Kaprije, Žirje, Zlarin, Krapanj... small in size, it hides a number of interesting facts and values; Zlarin coral jewelry, wooden gajeta boats, olive groves, vineyards and traditional ways of life like collecting sponges (on the island of Krapanj).

Kornati National Park is a unique group of islands, reefs and rocks, which are decorated by a number of old lighthouses, and are now target to Robinson tourists as are Blitvenica and Sestrice. Another rarity of this area is the emerald beauty river Krka, which springs in the Karst Dalmatian hinterland and enters the sea near Šibenik, which is the economic, cultural and administrative centre of the county. Šibenik Cathedral, a jewel of sacral architecture, is under UNESCO protection. Krka National Park covers most of the flow of this wonderful river, which in its course towards the sea has formed seven noisy, picturesque waterfalls of which the most famous are Roški slap and Skradinski buk. In addition to the natural phenomena, Krka National Park is full of historical and cultural monuments. Among them, the Franciscan monastery on the island Visovac stands out where there is also a picture gallery and a church from the 14th century. The rocky interior of this region is important for many sites and fortresses such as Bribirske glavice, Burnum, Knin fortress... The whole story ends with the magical cuisine; famous Šibenik mussels, prosciutto and Skradin cake with a sip of the local wine Babić from the nearby Primošten vineyards, whose image adorns the lobby of the United Nations building.
